The Humpback Whale Watching Season turns the Tumbes coast, between June and October, into the stage of one of the most dazzling biological spectacles in western South America. From the freezing waters of Antarctica, these immense cetaceans arrive in the warm currents of Tumbes and Piura to breed and raise their calves.
The jurisdictions of Zorritos and Canoas de Punta Sal, under the guidelines of the Regional Directorate of Tourism (Dircetur), have built a solid service economy based on responsible nature tourism, implementing biosecurity working groups, beach management and regulated yacht rental. This phenomenon attracts ecotourists from around the world and generates an immeasurable economic synergy for the region.
It takes place on the Tumbes coast, mainly in Zorritos and Canoas de Punta Sal, with departures from the local piers.
