Puerto Pizarro
Between June 28th and 29th, emblematic fishing communities such as Puerto Pizarro, La Cruz, Zorritos and Canoas de Punta Sal celebrate the Saint Peter and Saint Paul Patron Saint Festival, patrons of the fishermen. Artisanal fishermen set aside their exhausting commercial work to devote themselves to the rite and profusely decorate their boats and yachts with flags, palms, garlands and multicolored ribbons.
After the traditional novenas, a majestic open-sea procession takes place, where the images of the holy apostles sail escorted by dozens of vessels to the sound of local bands. The celebration serves a dual purpose: on the one hand, it prays for prosperity in future catches and protection from the vastness of the ocean; on the other, it boosts the local economy through massive gastronomic fairs offering the finest of the day's catch, gathering thousands of national visitors.
It is celebrated in fishing communities such as Puerto Pizarro, La Cruz, Zorritos and Canoas de Punta Sal, along the coast of Tumbes.
