Los Órganos and Punta Veleros

Los Órganos

  • Whale watching: mid-July to late October
  • Los Órganos

About this place

Los Órganos sits at kilometre 1150 of the North Pan-American Highway, 55 km north of Talara and 13 km south of Máncora, connected by regular bus lines such as EPPO and, towards Punta Veleros, by unpaved roads along the southern base of the bay.

Its most striking feature is Cerro Los Órganos, a sedimentary massif whose notches and vertical profiles resemble the pipes of a monumental organ. The resort has built a distinct profile around marine wildlife ecotourism: Punta Veleros offers turquoise waters, wide sand strips and low building density.

The core experience is humpback whale watching during their reproductive journey from Antarctic waters: certified scientific and tourist boats leave the pier daily, revealing breaching cetaceans, mothers with calves and dolphin groups. The area also offers excellent scuba and free diving around retired marine platforms, with micro-reefs of tropical fish and seahorses.

The climate is warm and dry (24–30 °C). The formal whale watching season runs from mid-July to late October; early morning departures are recommended.
